From Gloria!!

I am Gloria and I am excited to visit the Louvre! The Louvre is a building that holds some of the most famous artwork in the world, including the Mona Lisa, Venus de Milo, Salles, and Winged Victory.

It would be so cool to actually see the Mona Lisa in person! It is a masterpiece, and I will look at it and wonder, "What is she thinking? What is she looking at?" I think I will be able to tell better if I am actually standing right in front of the original painting. I have that picture in my mind.

I would enjoy seeing all of these art masterpieces in Paris! With the help of the fundraisers I am doing, I will be able to go there and have an educational and super fun experience. Thank you to all of my supporters!

Let's Do This!

Gloria's major fundraising efforts have already been underway for about a month now! She is selling Girl Scout cookies and is also planning some troop fundraisers. Several generous friends have also made monetary donations to her scout account to help towards the cost of the trip!

If you would like to buy some Girl Scout cookies, please let me know at angelinasahm@yahoo.com! Also, if you do not want cookies for yourself, but would like to donate some boxes to the troops via the troop's Gift of Caring Troop2Troop/USO program, please let me know! It is super easy to pay! The cookies are only $4/box.

If you prefer to support Gloria by sending a monetary donation, checks can be made out to Troop 2469 and mailed or given directly to me. Email for any other details!

Right now we are doing preliminary budgeting. Things that will cost money in Paris:

-Eurail Pass
-metro pass
-lodging
-food
-museum passes (Louvre, Sacre Coeur, Notre Dame, Orsay museum, Rodin museum, Arc de Triomphe, Eiffel Tower, Versailles, Sainte-Chappelle, Fontevraude Abbaye, Chateau de Chinon)
-Seine River cruise

I also plan to take Gloria to Chinon to see a castle where Joan of Arc recognized the dauphin and asked permission to raise an army to defeat the English. Also, we will visit the Abbaye de Fontevraud where the incomparable Eleanor of Aquitaine is buried alongside Henry II and their son, Richard I (the Lionheart). (scream with glee!!!)

There are tentative plans to further our travels to the Girl Scout chalet in Switzerland and to briefly visit Prague, which will be two train stops on our way back to Germany. In Germany we will visit with good friends in Berlin and Munich. We are flying in and out of Ramstein, Germany. We are very blessed to not have to pay for airline tickets as we are taking Space-A military flights!

So overall, even with the extra days in Switzerland and Czech Republic, we are looking at a tentative budget of $2000. This is amazing for two whole weeks of traveling in Europe! We have booked our lodging in Paris and Chinon already through www.airbnb.com. I plan to write a future blog post about the incredible places we are staying at!!!

Hello!

Hello and welcome to our first blog post! We have decided to start a blog to chronicle our adventures and the many preparations for our trip to Europe this summer! The highlight of our tour will be visiting the City of Lights: Paris!
Gloria's older brother is a Boy Scout and originated the idea for us to go to Europe. His troop is going to hike the Rhine River in Germany and they said we should come. Well, we decided that we wanted to have our own adventures and settled on Paris because, well, it's Paris! Gloria is a Girl Scout and there is an amazing Paris badge program she is excited to complete.

We thought that the purpose of this blog would be to inform everyone of our plans and fundraising efforts. We also plan to post each day while we are in Europe.

If you have any ideas for us, please post in the comments section!
